Students of the International University of Applied Sciences are runners-up of the European Mise En Place Cup in Amsterdam

Michaela Brase, Kai Menzel, Cornelius Schilling and Tim Kaltenborn were the runners-up of the European Mise En Place Cup in Amsterdam. These Hospitality Management students of the International University of Applied Sciences made use of their knowledge and their practical experiences acquired during their ongoing career and their studies in order to successfully solve the tasks and challenges of the two-day competition.

Das Honnefer Team: Tim Kaltenborn, Kai Menzel, Michaela Brase and Cornelius Schilling (v.l.n.r.)

The basis of the success and the participation was a survey conducted by these students, in which they developed an approach for the creation of value in the hospitality industry. “New Ways To Create Value: A People Centered Approach To Efficient Experiences” was the topic of their survey. They presented the results in the first lap of the competition in Amsterdam. In the second lap, the groups participating had the task to analyse a case study for applying “Lean Management” in the hospitality industry. Afterwards, they had to present their results to a jury of deans and professors of universities and companies related to the hospitality industry.

The best three teams of the first two laps qualified for the third and final lap – the team of the International University of Applied Sciences was one of them and presented a summary of their results to 500 qualified visitors at a hospitality trade show the following day. In the end, the result was announced and our team missed only a single point to become the winner of the competition. Being the runners-up, they returned to Bad Honnef with their cup, many impressions, experiences and new contacts.

The European Mise En Place Cup is a competition of the Dutch Mise En Place Group and the Dutch network association HotelloTop. In 2010, the competition took part for the second time and was attended by teams of nine European universities. All information on this competition can be found on www.emcup.org.
